Anyone Who Visits This Island In 2017 Will Be Paid $300! What You Waiting For?!

The U.S. Virgin Islands want you to vacation there real bad—as in, “We’ll give you $300 to come over” bad.

Yep, you read that right: The U.S.V.I. will pay you to go visit their beautiful beaches next year. And if you’re still reading and haven’t clicked away to buy your airline tickets, you should know that, yes, there is a catch—but it’s one that you’re probably going to be totally cool with.

For those of us who are unfamiliar with the U.S.V.I. (one of the sexiest places on earth, according to Instagram), they’re a group of Caribbean islands that became a United States territory in 1917 after the U.S. bought them from Denmark. Every year, the U.S.V.I. celebrate that transfer of power on “Transfer Day,” A.K.A. March 31. So if you’re skeptically wondering why they’re handing us $300 to take an vacation in paradise, the reason is simply because it’s a 100th anniversary present celebration of America casually buying a Caribbean archipelago. ‘

Seems like a pretty sweet deal for anyone looking for a warm getaway in the harsh wintry months, no?

Here’s the catch—which really isn’t one, in our opinion: You can’t put the $300 on your bar tab. The government wants you to actually do stuff besides lay out on the beach, so the credit applies to “vacation activities,” which include things like “eco-tours, museums, food tours, and kayaking adventures,” as Thrillist reports. Free food? We are here for it.

The credits are physical papers and can be used at any participating location. You can get a list of those by checking out the tourism board’s website, or you can just be super chill, show up and see where the island takes you. (Probably plan ahead, though. Just sayin’.)

Ready to go? Round up your girlfriends, S.O., or, hey, yourself, and book a 2017 trip for at least three nights through the U.S.V.I. website. They’ll send you those $300 in credits for vacation activities, and then you’re good to enjoy paradise—and have some amazing adventures while you’re there.
