Location, Location, Location – Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square

Our family just got back from an experience-packed stay in Washington DC.  I was not sure whether I’d be able to get my teenagers excited about this trip as they are usually more interested in taking pictures and documenting themselves in front of museums than actually entering them.

However, we counted our lucky stars to have booked the Sofitel where the most intelligent and helpful of concierges took us under his wing. After a heated and still undecided discussion about our options in the city, Germain stepped in and – with humor, understanding and seemingly endless knowledge – was able to set the family into effective motion. This wonderful man took it upon himself to assist whenever he perceived his services could be of help, and believe me, short of family counselling we utilized him at every turn.

The Hotel itself is in a wonderful location just across the street from the White House which makes for a beautiful, sporty walk to the museums and monuments.  It is also in a service-dense zone of restaurants, cafes and facilities.

On those merits alone we couldn’t help but enjoy ourselves, the great food and the super friendly staff contributed to it being a truly glorious family vacation. I do feel however, like they owe me a big “I’m sorry” for getting me hooked on Parisian quality pastries – something which I indulged in every morning in tandem with their excellent French pressed coffee. My morning routine feels, frankly, very hollow and meaningless ever since.

Another homey feature is the self-serve coffee and selection of teas in the morning hours which is nice for those of us (me) in need of an encore beverage.

Our room came complete with a lovely view which was great since you truly get the sense of being in the capital in the best possible way.  Also the TV was bigger and better than the one we have at home which scored a lot of points with the kids.
